Powers of Attorney – How to choose your agent.
When choosing who you appoint as your agent to handle your finances through a Power of Attorney, you should choose carefully. Often people simply choose their oldest child or closest sibling without consideration as to what is needed from an agent. It is important that you choose someone with high integrity and who is completely trustworthy. This person should also have common sense and some amount of financial knowledge. Therefore, choose your agent and successor agents with care and if you are unable to find someone who meets your criteria consider not having a Power of Attorney and using a different method to protect yourself in case of incapacity.
